Vista’s head social media co-ordinator Lauren Barnes looks at an award-winning street in Merseyside that is getting rave-reviews for cool – and the part Vista and its XtremeDoor played in it.
Words such as ‘iconic’ and ‘cool’ are what many homeowners are trying to achieve when it comes to the look and style of their property. It’s not enough to impress the neighbours on your street anymore, you must also excite the lifestyle bloggers and your friends and fans all over social media.
It’s nice to see our doors have helped The Welsh Streets become one of Liverpool’s coolest and most interesting streets, as voted for by the Liverpool Echo.
The multi-award-winning redevelopment made it into the local newspapers top 14 most beautiful and breathtaking streets in Merseyside.

Located near Princes Park in Liverpool, they were named after Welsh towns, valleys, and villages as they were constructed by Welsh builders for immigrants seeking work and housing from Wales, but they went from a proud home for migrants to a neglected wasteland.
The plans for the huge regeneration project by property specialists Placefirst to refurbish the iconic Victorian Welsh Streets were made in 2015 and the result has breathed new life into more than 300 empty homes in Toxteth and will ensure this important part of city’s heritage will continue for generations to come.
But why is it so iconic?
Oozing cool
We’re not short of stunning streets here in Merseyside, with so many beautiful areas and variety matched with incredible architecture, quirky character, or beautiful decorations. But some streets still stand out amongst the rest – and The Welsh Streets epitomises cool.
And nothing is cooler than The Beatles. Number 9 Madryn Street was the home and birthplace of former Beatle Ringo Starr and the area took on iconic status.
And if that’s not cool enough, they were the early set for multiple episodes of popular hit TV show Peaky Blinders.
An iconic street needs an iconic door
Our signature composite XtremeDoor, iconic in the industry itself, was the door of choice for the project and were installed in a range of colours during the first phase of the redevelopment.
The doors have helped Placefirst to completely reimagine the homes by preserving rich heritage, period features such as high ceilings and big windows, whilst introducing several modern design interventions.
The choice of contemporary looking doors on traditional looking houses is a great way of giving a property a modern twist. And with each one being a different colour, the doors helped to completely reinvigorate the area.
I talked about the importance of colour in my last blog and how it is often the first thing people notice about a house. Getting the colour of a front door to suit a home right is vital, and with so many colour choices available, there really is no excuse.
A project, and door, to be proud of
The Welsh Streets redevelopment has breathed new life into more than 300 empty homes and the houses’ exterior appearance has brought many people back to the area of Toxteth.
The result has seen a remarkable revival as the properties have been turned into high-quality homes for rent at rates that are accessible to nurses, care workers, teachers and others that are usually priced out of good-quality housing.
And the XtremeDoor has placed its part. After all, when it comes to your door, it’s cool to be hip!
